THERAPY

PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY

- I am not taking on new clients at the moment -

My appointments are fully booked for the foreseeable future.  This means that I am not able to take new enquiries at present and have now closed my waiting list.  It is likely to be a number of months before I re-open my list.

I regret that I am not able to accept new clients.  If you are looking for therapy then I encourage you to explore other providers:
I hope that you get the support that you're looking for.

Clinical psychologists are trained to help people find ways of managing difficult thoughts, emotional distress and unhelpful behaviours.

We all have problems from time to time, and mostly we find ways to manage such difficulties without turning to a professional. But if things are particularly hard, or you are not sure where to turn or how best to cope, then perhaps I can help.

Psychological therapy involves teamwork: we both have a part to play. You bring your insider knowledge of the problem, and I bring understanding of the science behind thoughts and feelings: together we find practical ways of moving beyond the difficulty.
I am trained to use a range of approaches and will tailor the treatment so that it's right for you and the challenge you're facing.

I help people with a wide range of issues

-   Eating distress: when food leads to upset, urges to over-eat, or extreme weight loss
-   Trauma: finding peace after awful things have happened
-   Anxiety: excessive worrying difficulties in social situations, panic, fears and phobias
-   Sadness: coping with loss or depression
-   Self esteem: liking yourself better
-   Interpersonal problems: difficulties in relationships
-   Pain and disability: living with a long term health problem or physical limitation
-   Sleep: support to sleep well or to cope with nightmares
-   Body dissatisfaction: strongly disliking your body or a part of it
-   Gender: differences between your felt sense and your biological sex
-   Obsessive thoughts: upsetting ideas or pictures in your ‘mind’s eye’
-   ‘Must-do’ Compulsions: feeling trapped in
unhelpful patterns of behaviour

Finding a therapist who's right for you

It can take time to find the right therapist and delays can be frustrating if you are keen to get going. All the same, we vary in our approaches, and have different personal styles, so it’s important that you find someone who you feel you can work with. I encourage people to 'shop around' by talking to a few different therapists to try to get a sense of who and what might suit them best. After all, you’re paying so it’s important you get a professional service, and one that you’re happy with.

If you'd like to arrange a phone call so that you can get a sense of me before making an appointment then I'd be very happy to hear from you. This will give us a chance to talk a little about your situation, what you're hoping for, and how I might be able to help before you spend any money.

Do get in touch - even if I can’t help then perhaps I know someone who can.
